Durbuk Administration cracks down on illegal mining, seizes 10 vehicles and machines
In a major enforcement action against illegal mining activities, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Durbuk, in coordination with the Deputy Director Mining, Ladakh, conducted a special drive across the sub-division on June 23 to ensure strict compliance with mining and environmental regulations.
During the operation, authorities seized three JCB machines and seven transport tippers found operating without valid minor mineral transit passes. The action was initiated to prevent unauthorised extraction and transportation of mineral resources.
The enforcement team also imposed substantial penalties on the violators based on the quantity of illegally extracted material, reinforcing the administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards illegal mining practices.
Strict warnings were issued to local contractors and commercial operators, directing them to comply with all prescribed mining regulations and environmental protection guidelines. The administration cautioned that any future violations would invite stringent legal action.
The SDM Durbuk reiterated the administration’s commitment to protecting natural resources, preserving ecological balance and ensuring that all mining activities within the sub-division are carried out strictly in accordance with the law.
