DC Kargil reviews key departments in Zanskar; stresses winter preparedness
Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, chaired a comprehensive review meeting at Zanskar on December 5 to assess the functioning and progress of various departments operating in the sub-division.
The DC conducted a detailed department-wise review covering Education, Rural Development, Revenue, Health, ICDS, LRLM, PHE, Power, Agriculture, Horticulture, KREDA, Social Welfare, Cooperatives, and other concerned departments.
On the issue of stray dog management, the DC was informed that sterilisation is currently not feasible in the region. He directed officials to ensure the availability and timely administration of anti-rabies vaccines as a precautionary measure.
Reviewing the education sector, he sought updates on overall performance and achievement levels, instructing the department to maintain steady academic progress despite harsh winter conditions.
In the power sector, the DC stressed the responsible use of alternate backup systems and advised avoiding heaters to prevent excessive load. He noted that while the Raru Hydro Project supplies power to Padum, other areas continue to rely on DG sets, and directed officials to ensure uninterrupted power supply during winter.
The DC instructed the DPO, ICDS Kargil, to prioritise and promote Self Help Group (SHG) products under LRLM across all ICDS-linked activities.
He also directed the Executive Engineer, PHE, to conduct a thorough review and submit a comprehensive report on challenges related to non-functional water supply systems in winter, along with practical and actionable measures for improvement.
Issues related to horticulture, agriculture, LRLM, and other departments were also discussed, with necessary directions issued for timely redressal.
The DC further emphasized that no officer should leave the station without prior permission from the competent authority.
The meeting was attended by the SDM Zanskar, along with district officers from Education, Rural Development, Revenue, Health, ICDS, LRLM, PHE, Power, Agriculture, Horticulture, KREDA, Social Welfare, Cooperatives, and other departmental heads, sub-division officers, and officials.
