CEC Kargil flags off distribution of organic fertilizer for crop season 2026–27
Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon on March 16 flagged off the first phase of distribution of 270 quintals of organic fertilizer to Chanigund and Karkitchu villages.
The distribution is being carried out under the initiative “Cultivating Prosperity” for the upcoming crop season 2026–27. The drive has been organised by the Department of Cooperatives, Kargil, UT Ladakh, at Kurbathang.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Akhoon emphasised the growing importance of organic fertilizers in promoting sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices in the region. He stated that the district aims to achieve 100 percent procurement and distribution of organic fertilizers to support farmers and enhance agricultural productivity.
However, he noted that a complete and immediate shift away from chemical fertilizers such as urea is not feasible. In this regard, he directed that up to 20 percent distribution of urea may continue temporarily, while gradually reducing its use and encouraging farmers to adopt organic alternatives.
The CEC directed the Deputy Registrar, Cooperatives, Kargil, to ensure proper documentation and implementation of the proposed 20 percent urea distribution, while maintaining fairness, transparency, and timeliness in the distribution of organic fertilizers.
Among others present on the occasion were In-charge Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies/Tehsildar Kargil, Ayaz Ahmed; Additional Registrar Cooperatives, Nargis Banoo; Assistant Registrar Cooperatives, Parveen Akhtar; Chief Agriculture Officer Kargil, Ashiq Hussain; BDO Pashkum; and officials from the Cooperative Department.
