Ashish Kundra, IAS, assumes charge as Chief Secretary of UT Ladakh

Ashish Kundra, IAS, formally assumed charge as the Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh on January 1.

Upon assuming office, Kundra reaffirmed his commitment to effective governance, transparent administration, and inclusive development across the Union Territory. He emphasized the need to strengthen institutional mechanisms, enhance service delivery, and ensure the timely implementation of developmental programmes aimed at the welfare of all sections of society.

Highlighting the importance of teamwork, accountability, and responsiveness, the new Chief Secretary stated that addressing the aspirations of the people of Ladakh would remain a key priority of the administration. He stressed the importance of an accessible administration that reaches out to all parts of the Union Territory, in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas.

Ashish Kundra further stated that the administration must gear up to meet the economic aspirations of the youth and work towards unlocking the full economic potential of the region. He noted that Ladakh has a rich civilisational history and has always been emblematic of peace, values that must be cherished and preserved.

He also underscored that, given Ladakh’s fragile ecology, the model of development must necessarily address concerns of sustainability and climate change. He cautioned against reckless construction in the name of development and called for a balanced and environmentally responsible approach.

The Administrative Secretaries and senior officers of the UT Administration welcomed Ashish Kundra and expressed confidence that his vast administrative experience and leadership would further strengthen governance and accelerate the overall development of the Union Territory.

Earlier, a ceremonial Guard of Honour was accorded to Ashish Kundra, IAS, at the UT Secretariat in Leh following his assumption of charge as the Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh.
