ADC Kargil reviews arrangements for 16th National Voters’ Day

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho, on January 17, chaired a meeting to review preparations and arrangements for the celebration of the 16th National Voters’ Day, scheduled to be held on January 25, 2026, at the Ice Hockey Rink, Byamathang, Kargil.

The meeting was attended by the Tehsildar, Kargil; Deputy District Election Officer; Executive Engineers from the Mechanical, Power Development (PDD), and Public Health Engineering (PHE) Departments; District Youth Officer, Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK); representatives from the Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture & Languages (LAACL); School Education Department; Ice Hockey Association; and other concerned departments and stakeholders.

During the meeting, the Deputy District Election Officer briefed participants on the proposed activities and programmes planned for the National Voters’ Day celebrations.

The ADC directed the Tehsildar to ensure the participation of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during the event and emphasized the need for maximum participation of youth, particularly first-time and young voters.

The Mechanical Department was instructed to keep snow clearance arrangements in place, subject to snowfall. The District Youth Officer, NYK, was asked to mobilise volunteers to support the event, enhance public participation, and explore similar voter awareness programmes at various coaching institutes.

The Department of Information and Public Relations was tasked with providing PA systems, anchoring, publicity, and IEC activities. The Power Development Department was directed to ensure electricity backup, while the PHE Department was asked to ensure water supply, if required, for freezing the ice. The Municipal Committee was instructed to ensure proper cleanliness and sanitation at the venue.

The ADC also suggested setting up a selfie point, an information stall, and a TV display to screen documentaries and messages by voter awareness ambassadors. He further asked the Ice Hockey Association to propose creative activities to mark the occasion.

Expressing hope for a smooth and successful event, the ADC sought full cooperation from all departments to ensure that the National Voters’ Day programme is organised in an effective and meaningful manner, promoting voter awareness and democratic participation in Kargil district.
