To accelerate the survey work of the 500-km-long Bilaspur-Manali-Leh railway line, the railways have sought a 2-hectare land from the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) to set up a camp office at Leh.
The General Manager, Northern Railway, A.K. Puthia, visited Leh along with a team of officers comprising Chief Administrative Officer, Construction Wing Jagdeep Rai and Divisional Railway Manager, Ferozpur Division Anuj Prakash.

695 Stranded passengers airlifted
Jammu, Monday, March 17, 2014 : In order to airlift the stranded passengers of Kargil at Jammu and Srinagar, the Indian Air Force on 14th March operated another sorties of IL 76 Cargo Aircraft and AN 32 Courier Service between Leh-Srinagar/Jammu and Kargil-Srinagar/Jammu.

The State Co-ordinator AN 32 Courier Service, Aamir Ali while disclosing the details said that 695 stranded passengers of Kargil were airlifted to their destination by IL-76 and AN 32 Courier Service.

A total of 225 people were flown to Leh from Jammu, 240 from Srinagar to Leh in IL 76 Cargo Aircraft while 100 from Jammu to Kargil, 55 from Kargil to Jammu, 34 from Kargil to Srinagar and 41 from Srinagar to Kargil, he added.

Kargil passengers stranded in Jammu
Jammu, Tuesday, March 4, 2014 : Thousands of passengers from Kargil were stranded in Jammu, the winter capital of J&K since last one month. The stranded passengers said that State Govt. has arranged only one IL-76 flight on 7th March between Jammu and Leh to airlift them due to non-operating of AN-32 Courier Service. The capacity of IL-76 is maximum 300, which is inadequate for thousands of passengers.

Kargil Srinagar Highway closed for vehicular traffic
Kargil, Monday, December 23, 2013 : The Kargil Srinagar Highway has been closed for all type of vehicular traffic due to heavy snowfall at Zojila Pass on 23rd December. According to reports, Menamarg has recorded more than 10 inches of snow. Kargil is also experiencing snowfall and due to which Kargil Zanskar road has been closed for traffic. The closure of the main highway has put the whole district to a standstill as the whole district will remains cutoff from rest of the world for at least six months.

Meanwhile the Kargil Leh road is open for traffic despite of snowfall. For the whole winter season the only connectivity for Kargil district is AN 32 Courier service which is dependent on the weather conditions. The dream of the people of Kargil to stay connected with the world will get fulfilled only if the long pending demand of a tunnel at Zojila pass becomes true, for which a foundation stone was laid two years back and work has not been started yet, or starting of air service as Kargil.

ALTOA withdrew lucky draw to participate in Travel Fair “ITB-Berlin”

Leh, Wednesday, December 11, 2013 : All Ladakh Tour Operator Association withdraw two names on 04 December, 2013 by lucky draw to participate in the world famous Travel Fair “ITB-Berlin” that is going to be held from 06th to 10th March 2014. The two names included Tsetan Angchuk, Himalayan Crossroad and Punchok Tsering, Exotic Travels. Both these participants will get subsidy on their expenses from J&K Tourism for their travel fair.

ALTOA also presented a memorandum to EC and AD Tourism for immediate and speedy action in interest of overall tourism promotion and development in Ladakh. Some of the points mentioned included, early solution of more flight frequency to Leh, invitation of new airlines, control in high rising airfare. Appealed support from LAHDC and J&K Tourism for assistance for funds to organize International Rafting Competition in 2014 and emergency helpline vehicle equipped with first-aid, oxygen cylinder in case of rescue and evacuation operations.

AN-32 Courier Service to begin from December in Kargil
Kargil, Thursday, November 21, 2013 : Indian Air Force (IAF) will start to operate AN-32 Courier Service to Kargil from the first week of December, 2013 and will remain operational as per the requirements of LAHDC, Kargil during the winter season after closure of the only surface link Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National Highway.

The decision was taken in a high level meeting, chaired by Advisor to the Chief Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon on 20th November, 2013, following the requisition made by Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil for start of IAF sorties.
