Ladakh celebrates 2562nd birth anniversary of Lord Buddha
Committing suicide, having alcohol, birth control against Buddha's teachings, says Rigyal Rinpo

LEH: With fervor and zeal, people of Ladakh celebrated 2562nd Buddha Jayanti organised by LBA on April 30 at Polo ground, Leh. Showcasing the tableau on the life of the Buddha, peaceful procession was carried out by the students, monks, and people from Chowkhang Vihara covering Namgyal Tsemo and culminated at Polo ground. His Eminence Rigyal Rinpoche, the chief guest said, “Buddha’s teaching is something which is experienced by Gautam Buddha himself and is based on the cause and results. It is because of the extreme philosophy and practice that many people around the world embrace Buddhism. We should follow his path and become a true Buddhist by understanding the teachings and practicing it in our daily life”. “Committing suicide, consuming alcohol and practice of birth control are against the teaching of Lord Buddha and people should avoid these practice," His Eminence added. Venerable Shatup Chamba, President LGA talked about the life of the Buddha and four noble truths. He urged people to follow the noble teachings of Lord Buddha. Tsewang Thinles, President, LBA said, “Putting into the practice of Buddha’s teaching is as important as celebrating this day. We must ask ourselves whether we are really practicing and following the path shown by Lord Buddha. There are lots of malpractices that is going in the society which is totally against the teaching. We need to rectify the mistakes and practice Buddha's teachings in a real sense.” A cultural programme was showcased by the students of different schools. Awards and certificates for the essay writing competition that was held on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti were distributed among the students. Chhering Dorje, Minister for Cooperative and Ladakh Affair, Thupstan Chhewang, MP Ladakh, Gyal. P Wangyal, EC Health, Tsering Wangdus, EC Agriculture, Avny Lavasa, DC, Moses Kunzang, ADC, head of all religious organisation and many other dignitaries were present.
