CEC directs underground power cables be installed by September
By Reach Ladakh Correspondent, Tuesday, August 1, 2017

Under Leh beautification project, the work of installing power lines underground in Leh main market was inspected by Dr. Sonam Dawa, CEC on July 25.

Dorjey Mutup, EC Works, Tsering Wangdus, EC Agriculture, SE PWD, Ex-en PDD, Ex-en R&B, officials of MC Leh and WAPCOS and concerned contractors were also present.

Ex-en PDD apprised CEC about the three major works to be undertaken which includes construction of transformer foundation, trench and feeder pillar in the market on the identified location.

CEC instructed SE PWD and PDD to make maximum effort to save public space and avoid any kind of health hazard during the works. On every stakeholder’s consent, Dr. Dawa fixed September end as the deadline to complete the entire task of laying cables to supply electricity to the residents.

He made it clear that no objection by any resident or shopkeeper will be entertained while fixing the feeder boxes in the market area and instructed the engineers to go by their fixed plans.

Dr Dawa expressed dismay over the inefficient and delayed work attitude of officials of WAPCOS and conveyed regrets to their higher authorities for not being supportive to Hill Council as committed.

He directed Ex-en PDD to keep a quality check and get the contractors start with the work at the earliest.

Spalzang informed CEC that some part of the work has been initiated and done and from July 28 the team of engineer and contractors will go for cable inspection soon after which work will be resumed in full swing.

CEC instructed him to submit the cable inspection report and asked EC Works to check the progress of works twice a month.
