The first ever film approved by Hemis Gompa. This documentary captures the essence of the festival; year 2004 marks the unveiling of the Guru Padma Sambhava Thanka, an event that happens once in twelve year. H H The twelth Gyalwang Drukpa Rinpochey donned the six sacred ornaments at Shey, making 2004 very auspicious, the mysticism, glamour and festivities in the rituals and ceremonies are showcased to make the event easier to understand.


A learning experience, the documentary is journey in itself.

Ladags Melong Video is an addition to its print version, which has been a household name in society since 1993. With the coming of a variety of video albums, Ladags Melong felt the need for a video magazine to educate both literates and illiterates about issues facing Ladakh. Thereafter Melong team put their hearts and souls into gathering news and views, and produced the first volume with much excitement. Most Venerable Chhogon Rinpoche released it on October 15, 2004.

The video lab owners say that Melong Video has created its own category.Melong Video has rich contents ranging from religion to science, and politics to entertainment. It also covers current controversial issues and gives a chance for people to express a variety of viewpoints. The content and the local language could be why more and more viewers have got hooked on it.



In a democracy with freedom of speech and expression, Ladags Melong Video serves as a forum for differing opinions and ideas to be expressed to the public.

Tsondus The Effort

Tsondus is a 55 - minute film made by the Media Section at SECMOL Campus Phey, and became the first ever feature film to be digitally edited as well as directed and produced, in Ladakhis. Tsondus, implies hard work or effort in Ladakh. The film is about a girl Kunzes, Played by Dechen Spalzes, a duding young actress from Igu.

Kunzes studies secretly while private tutors come and teach her master's son and daughter pay no attention to the tutor's lesson waste their time with friends in bars, she secretly works hard in her room. The teacher also supports her when she expresses interest in taking the 10th class exam. When the family learns about her enrolment for the metric exam, they laugh and ridicule her. But finally when the results of the exam are announced, the rich kids fail while Kunzes passes.

Rather than taking an easy ad lucrative government job, Kunzes after her studies chooses to work in far away villages to improve the schools and to mobilise the people to take care of their children's education.

The popularity of the film is not only among Ladakhis but also among the tourists as it has English subtitles.
