Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies Nawang Rigzin Jora inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of the Leh Town Beautification Project worth Rs 217 Crores at Main Bazaar Leh near Jamia Masjid Leh on 24th December. CEC LAHDC, Rigzin Spalbar, DC Simrandeep Singh, SSP Dr. Sunil Gupta were also accompanying the Minister.
The programme began with a prayer by gathering blessings from all Lha’s and lama’s by playing the larnga.
Speaking on the event Rigzin Spalbar said, “this day will be marked as a revolution of progress and be written in golden words in the history of Ladakh and the credit of this success goes to Rigzin Jora and its because of his effort and support that this project has been possible. Every year thousands of people visit Leh and it’s obvious that the burden needs to get handled. It was impossible to improve the condition of Leh in bits and pieces. The 217 crores 35 lakh project has been divided into four major parts, 70.48 Crores for house to house drinking water facilities, 59.39 Crores for proper sewage system, 10.94 Crores for solid waste management, rest for the constructions of road and in beautifying the main town of Leh”.
He added that before starting the project all major religious organizations, tour and shop associations were called and explained about the project and the plan of beautifying Leh town. The people of Leh town extended their full support in this process. Citing the non local officials as Ambassador to Leh, Spalbar said that they have always created a good picture of Ladakh. He further thanked the Muslims of Leh for their support.
Nawang Rigzin Jora while addressing the gathering highlighted that the roads in Leh, sewage treatment plant, water facilities has been done keeping in mind the vision for the coming 30 years. PM had sanctioned a fund of Rs 475 crores for Leh and Kargil District for various solar power project and 400 crores under RGGVY rural electrification project sanctioned for these regions to lay the transmission line. While appreciating the works of Spalbar he said “Rigzin Spalbar is a great leader with a great team who knows well how to work and put his own perspective and brilliant ideas for the progress of Leh”.
Calling the day as historic, DC Simrandeep Singh in his welcome speech highlighted that this project is incomparable in the history of Leh as under this project four major works on improving the roads, water facilities, sewage system and solid waste management is covered. No other small district of J&K has received such a huge amount on urban development works. He thanked the minister on behalf of all Ladakhi people.
The music band of 1st Ladakh Scout enchanted and mesmerized the audience with their magical performances.
Minister for Tourism Mohd Shafi Lassu, EC Animal Husbandry Gyurmet Dorje, and dignitaries from Ladakh Scout, ITBP, ITBF, SSB, Religious leaders, Executive Councilors, Councilors and general public participated in the gathering.
